  1. To add backup on your analogy with cloud migration, I'm a ten-year senior Java enterprise developer working for the Defense Department. And I'm on the cloud migration team where we are JUST NOW comparing different CSPs before we even start migrating! Lord only knows how long the actual migration will take, but I'm guessing at least a few years. AND on your other analogy about COBOL, about 1/3 of our developers are COBOL programmers maintaining our central mainframe. 😀 So yes, there will always be some old mess in legacy systems moving at glacial speed. Not everything is on the cutting edge. Now the old messes aren't a lot of fun to work on compared to the new sexy stuff, but they're certainly not eliminated. It's still a decent paycheck.

  2. I think it's copium. AI is unlike anything in the past. Calculators and design tools are specialized, AI aims to be human.
AI isn't mimicking tools, it's mimicking us. It can create AI developers, stack AI on AI. This isn't impossible.

All tech jobs are screwed in 3-5 years. We can keep try to find loop holes like can it do this or that, but we all know deep inside that sometime in the near future that hole is gonna be patched. And it will be faster than ever.

Maybe a Renaissance 2.0 focused on thought and humanism is coming.

Thebeauty tho is humanity will figure it out together so im sure even if there's mass replacements for peoplr a system will be put to place go give us security to live but it won't be immediate.

Capitalism may struggle with widespread AI adoption. Mass unemployment could lead to decreased consumer spending, harming businesses.
Authoritarian regimes might find AI advantageous, but this raises ethical concerns.

The future is uncertain, but AI's impact will be profound.

  3. since im 10 years away from it jobs like software development will be disappearing. I will be focusing on making projects with coding on my own not for money anymore. Projects that will help me solve real-life problems with hardware involved with my friends . If it IT disappears in 10 years then that is a shame, but at least i created my projects that I can say I was proud to create. And don't forget not all software development jobs will be gone. You guys can all program to make AI even stronger to solve problems therefore i don't see it being gone anytime soon with languages like C++, Python, C, C#, and maybe Java. These languages will help perfect AI. Languages like Javascript might be taken by AI, because Ai can already program HTML and CSS.

  4. There have been so many EVERYONE PANIC SOFTWARE JOBS ARE DEAD kind of headlines lately I started hiding them, and then moving on to DON"T RECOMMEND CHANNEL on the creators, because I'm just so tired of it and there are SO MANY, like they all WANT to developers to live in this state of heightened anxiety and all become plumbers? How does this panic actually HELP anyone??

Well, this video and it's title almost zapped you from my feed Mosh. I've been following you for ages, and didn't recognize you with the beard and round glasses and almost dropped you out of my feed. I'm glad you put the subject markers in here so I could tell you were basically saying no it won't.

Honestly right now I think the real threat is high level managers and other stakeholders who don't actually code seeing all this and thinking they don't need engineers or can cut half the team and still get it all done, and the those that are left struggling to deal with expectations way out of line with reality. I'm kind of loving copilot, but it gets things wrong a lot. It's a high powered search tool and a fine rubber duck, and sometimes a cat helping you pack your suitcase.

  5. I’m currently 17, I have learned python, C#, C++ (and html/css/js but I don’t want to go into that). I’m leaning towards becoming a software engineer as my career but now I’m sceptical. Not only is getting a good job in my country rare, but also all the AI is making me question if I just wasted years of my life for nothing.

  6. Devin AI claims to revolutionize coding, but let's not jump the gun. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will flawless AI software. So, while Devin might be promising, it's essential to stay grounded and focus on continuous learning.

  7. i am a second year student in computer science. For two years ive been learning frontend and backend technologies. As i understand these are the first industries will be effected by ai. What should you prefer to newbies like me. Should i be learning ai techs. what tech should we learning for now and for the future. Should we swap to ai techs.

  8. 100% agree with this video
After all when tractors and combine harvestors got invented didn't mean that farmeres are now obsolete, it just means that now farmers spend less time doing repetitive grueling Manuel harverst and are now doing more of sorting and selective breeding and now they created new varieties of plants
And just because now 1 farmer can in 1 day do the work of 50 farmers in a week doesn't mean there'll be less farmers because as our population found more food it grew more and it's food demand also grew employing new farmers
Now when 1 dev can do the work of 3 (unlikely even with ai) we can build MORE complex apps and programs and tackle more problems and also software is expanding into everything (even education law policing piloting ect…) No one will tryst only ai to take care of all that (and even if ai took over all those jobs, who's gonna build maintain and upgrade those ai? Programmers)so the demand for software programmers is gonna skyrocket even more

  9. All I ever hear swe influencers say is "It will take time, we wont get replaced yet" but the fact is that you will in due time! The more you cope, the less time you give yourself to make a plan b ,c and d.

  10. Thank God for AI, Software engineers now have justice because anyone is programming which is inhuman to someone studied and worked for 5 years to have his degree and then a stupid ugly boy learned coding in 1 month replaced by cuz he cost less.

  11. After last presentation I totally lost trust to NVIDIA CEO for this "everyone his now a programmer with AI".
This poor (rich!) old man doesn't understand today's "programming" at all. OMG!
So he is just building hype to make hi self even more rich… Such pathetic thing…

  12. of course mosh is making this videos because he has to sell his "programming" courses 🙂 ? but true and i don't think programming and software engineer is going anywhere , it would even grow .

  13. It's just about time . Probably 5 years from now everyone can make app and even AAA games with this speed of AI improvement , dont forget this much improvement in AI is happend only in 1 year . It's easy to guess what it will be in 2030

  14. Okay let me input some common sense into this video because this man obviously doesn't have any.

Just for shits and giggles I had chat gbt develop me a very intricate C++ based game for the unreal Engine 3

I decided to make a very complex prompt which had chat gbt create a controller object bind the jump function two said controller object by pressing the X button on a PlayStation 4 controller.

Without fail chat GPT created that fucking code in 30 seconds and it works Flawless.

So how are you trying to tell me that Devon that is almost 3 generation smarter than chat gbt when it comes to programming is not going to replace developers. 🤨

Are you slow sir or are you just trying to set people up for failure? 😒

  15. True 150%. Those claims are ignorant to a big extent, and yes, it reflects how the people that do the claims never have built and maintained a real complex system. And I think I know what I am saying having 20 years of coding experience and problem solving and more than 8 of software engineering.

  16. The problem is that the "one-prompt" software that non-techies build, compete with, say small indie dev teams. It's increased competition, even if their software may not be scalable, it definitely could build eye-catching, investment magnets which compete with slower teams, even if they are more sophisticated and human than the AI generated software users.

  17. Make devin multimodal, use it to upload pictures of boards of products that you use, enable it to have agents, use an agent that monitors packets to monitor the device's network data, give it the ability to watch the device in use through a camera or video stream and then have it reverse engineer and modify the device with user feedback. Easily this year.

  18. I couldn't believe it when I heard that this random AI that came out of nowhere is going to replace millions of software engineers around the world I kept watching random clickbait videos and freaking out but when I saw your video i was deeply reassured! Looks like I'm going to college! Thanks Mosh!

  19. What's intriguing is our approach to marketing Devin, despite the fact that none of us actually use Devin in our daily work. The real question is whether our children or anyone else really needs to go to college if Devin is going to handle everything. If colleges can't generate revenue because Devin is now the programmer, teacher, and lawmaker, then we have a significant problem. What does that mean for our children? I believe Devin is overhyped, as many businesses still don't use AI and there aren't enough AI developers to meet the demand. It feels like we're providing free advertising just to shut down what was already established.

  20. Mosh has done a great job again by explaining the reality of AI and Software Engineering. If you want to become a software engineer, please follow your dreams. Do not listen to people who say AI will replace software engineers. Anyone who says that does not know anything about software engineering. I've had a situation where ChatGPT was wrong with the code it generated and its expected output. It was clear to me that it runs on keywords. I had to fix the code myself to generate the output it had earlier stated. These tools are meant to make your work easier and to give you a head start. Afterall, these AI products aren't building themselves. They still need software engineers to do that. We will always be needed.

  21. Hi Mosh! I enjoy your videos and usually never comment, but the time you take to address real-world issues and concerns is inspiring. Please keep doing what you're doing, as you provide so much inspiration, learning advocacy, and insight into how the industry works. From one software engineer to another, the truth is appreciated.

  22. AI will reduce software engineering jobs 1000%, no one said it will eliminate all jobs tomorrow. There is nothing in life that is absolute the next day but its gradually reduction over time. Stop misleading people with your video or being ultra naive. AI real application to general public started when and see where we are already. What you think next 20 years???

  23. Hey Mosh
    "I truly value your insight."

Lately, I've been exploring resources that discuss the future opportunities for JavaScript developers in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). I'm keen to understand if they have a substantial role to play in the ever-evolving landscape of technology. Are there specific opportunities for JavaScript developers to establish themselves in this domain?

  24. Glad I came across this video. I have been coding for 5 months and stopped for a bit after learning AI
will take over. However this video has given me hope again and I have continued. Thank you. You are a true blessing….

  25. Hey guys i am a complete begginer and want to get into the journey of learning how to code but also keeping up with AI. Where do you reccomend i start and how? Thanks in advance
