Now Apple has overtaken leaders Microsoft and Google in the high-stakes AI race by promising the first killer use of AI – a true personal assistant in the form of… the iPhone. Even stocks that once lagged soared to all-time highs, anchored by Apple’s unique combination of hardware, software and data. But its biggest advantage over AI devices like the Humane pin and the Rabbit R1 is that it’s already in the pockets of billions of users. This week in TechCheck, Apple takes the lead in artificial intelligence. 0:00 – Apple leads 4:57 – Chatbots everywhere 5:45 – Device of the future 7:24 – Is it too early to call? 1. No, Apple's new AI is not an example of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Current AI technologies, including those developed by Apple, are still within the realm of Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI). Here are a few points to elaborate on this:

    Understanding AI Categories:
    Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI):

Scope: ANI is designed for specific tasks. Examples include language processing, image recognition, and recommendation systems.
Capabilities: ANI systems can outperform humans in their specific domains but cannot generalize knowledge or skills across different areas.
Examples: Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, and other machine learning models used in Apple's products are examples of ANI.
    Artificial General Intelligence (AGI):

Scope: AGI would have the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks, similar to human cognitive abilities.
Capabilities: AGI would be able to generalize knowledge, perform any intellectual task that a human can do, and adapt to new situations autonomously.
Status: AGI remains a theoretical concept and has not been achieved by any technology or company.
    Apple's AI Technologies:
    Siri and Machine Learning:

Siri uses machine learning and natural language processing to understand and respond to user queries. It operates within the constraints of ANI, performing specific tasks such as setting reminders, sending messages, and providing weather updates.
Apple integrates various machine learning models into its products for tasks like facial recognition, photography enhancements, and personalized recommendations. These models are highly specialized and do not possess general intelligence.
    Core ML and Neural Engine:

Apple's Core ML framework allows developers to integrate machine learning models into apps, leveraging the Neural Engine for efficient processing. These capabilities enhance specific functionalities within apps but do not equate to general intelligence.
    Conclusion:
While Apple continues to innovate and enhance its AI technologies, these advancements remain within the scope of ANI. AGI, which would require a system to possess human-like cognitive abilities and adaptability, is still a goal for the distant future and has not been realized by Apple or any other company.

  2. ????this is really putting the cart before the horse here. Apple AI is none existent at the moment. It won’t be out this year. 2025 at best. They have seriously fallen behind the rest of the market.

  3. If you’re hating here, 1. Why you here? 2. Don’t forget Apple doesn’t rush, they come in and top everyone. AGAIN done here. lol. 3. You have a touch screen phone thanks to Apple. 😊

  4. Im not gonna lie, this really feels like an ad, like they are trying to sell iphone to me. Now as someone who has been freelancing alot within integrating AI, I will admit that some of the selling points are legit, like how llms run locally on the device rather than from the cloud and how since everything is owned and ruled by one company it creates a very seemless experience. However, the main reason I prefer android over iphone, and windows above mac, is because of the fact that its very closed. There is no API to play around with. Siri feels like a dinosaur compared to coPilot and ChatGPT, and the fact you need the latest iphone to even have access to this, feels deterring to me. If I have an iphone and use normal PCs, how do I integrate them? You cant, unless you also buy a macbook.

  5. Note for the video editor: try lowering the music for the overall video when playing a clip from another. It was disconcerting to listen to the WWDC clips with their music on top of the music chosen for the overall CNBC video.

  6. I just realised google could've done the same with the Pixel. Contextual knowledge pre-dating the creation of the iPhone…think how old Gmail is. It's a difference of philosophy going forward now..privacy vs traditional cloud data share. What a time.

  7. Apple should learn from Nokia's past missteps, where overconfidence led to significant market share losses. By prioritizing exclusivity over user loyalty, Apple risks repeating history and driving away its dedicated customer base.
Apple seems aware of that they are behind the AI integration across its products, to be a rushed introduction of generative AI looks like a panic move?. Naming its AI function "Apple Intelligence" and adopting the slogan "AI for the rest of us" may seem clever, but restricting AI features exclusively to the iPhone 15 series contradicts this inclusive message. This selective approach is seen as unfair and disloyal to the majority of iPhone users who are left without access to these advancements.
Moreover, Apple's new "personal intelligence" tool looks like not groundbreaking compared to competitors where more sophisticated AI offerings. The decision to limit AI features raises serious questions about Apple's strategy and the rationale behind this exclusivity. It risks alienating loyal Apple users who may feel neglected and prompt them to consider competing brands that offer more inclusive and advanced AI solutions.

  8. Lol all those experts the last half year really thinking Apple was not into AI 😂 they just were integrating AI into their systems while the rest were bragging about their progress. Now just wait untill they unveil their new Apple Glasses ( looks like the meta raybans) to give the Apple Intelligence also eyes and ears to pilot the user through the world.
